How Fraction Ball Works
Fraction Ball features organized games where students learn fractions through play.
Form a Team
Form teams of 6 to 8 players. Assign all six student roles, which can be adjusted during the game: Shooter, Shot Caller, Rebounder, Counter, Checker, and Tracker.
Shoot from the Fraction Arcs
Shoot from the different fraction arcs to determine each shot’s value. Farther shots are worth more and can boost the score.
Scoring is Part of the Play
Learn with evey bucket. Every point scored is a fraction.
Add the Fractions
Add the fractions together on the number line to keep a running total.
Every Student Has a Role
No one sits out. No one watches. Every player is essential.
Shooter
Takes the shot from a chosen arc.
Point Caller
Stands at the base of the hoop and calls out the value of each made shot, loudly, so it can be tracked accurately.
Rebounder
Stands at the base of the court and retrieves the ball after each shot.
Counter
Stands on the number line and moves the bean bag to keep the team’s running total — but only after the shot caller announces the value out loud.
Checker
Works next to the counter, helping and checking the math.
Tracker
Records made shots on the tracking worksheet and adds the points on the number line.
